Window Stool
c.1773
The Earl & Countess of Harewood, & the Trustees of the Harewood House Trust

These '2 long Stools with Scroll heads' were invoiced for the State bedroom, but their length suggests that they must have been made for the dressing room next door. They are slightly too long to fit into the window recesses of the bedroom, but fit neatly into those for the dressing room. The seat rails are ornamented with garlanded lion masks, a motif found on the eighteen chairs, two sofas and window cornices as well as the vase finial of the State bed. All the upholstered furniture was covered in green silk damask set off against their carved and gilded frames.
