Chippendale supplied ten of these chairs at £4 4s each, as well as two bergeres and two sofas. They were all japanned yellow and white with yellow damask upolstery. The bill describes the chairs as being 'Covered in yourDamask and finished with gilt Nails', which implies that Edwin Lascelles provided the silk damask for the whole suite, as well as for the walls and curtains.
Many of the other pieces made for this room, including the Sconce and Pier Table, were originally silvered rather than gilt and would, therefore, have acted as a stunning contrast with the yellow furniture, walls and curtains. Only one piece, the Sconce, has survived with it's silvering in tact.
