Elbow Chair
c.1774
The Paxton Trust, Paxton House

Originally one of a pair this remaining armchair, supplied en suite with six similarly painted beech side chairs and a wing armchair, was until recently in a fairly dilapidated state, as can be seen here. It has been fully restored to its original 'japan'd Green & White' scheme and the 'Round Star back' recreated following the design found on the six side chairs.

They were invoiced on 7 June 1774, costing Ninian Home £3.6s -d for the pair and supplied with '2 sets of Superfine Chints Cotton cases' designed to match the bed hangings, window curtains and the specially printed wallpaper.
