Armchair
c.1775
Newby Hall

This armchair is part of a set of '12 large Cabriole Chairs carv'd & gilt in burnished Gold'. They were supplied with two sofas and the whole suite is still covered in its original Gobelin tapestry. William Weddell commissioned a set of the famous Boucher-Neilson medallion tapestries from the Gobelin looms, which were then made into matching wall hangings and chair covers by Chippendale. This splendid interior still remains relatively intact today.
