Armchair
c.1767
Nostell Priory (The National Trust)

This was invoiced as part of a set of '10 Mahogany french arm Chairs' on 15 October 1767, for Sir Rowland Winn at Nostell Priory. The entire set amounted to £3.5s.-d. They are relatively similar to the set of chairs supplied for the Library at Harewood House. They have the same cabriole front and back legs, ending on scroll feet, and are both upholstered in leather. The set made for Nostell Priory, however, are much plainer and display very simple carved decoration in comparison to the set at Harewood, which are more elaborate. Edwin Lascelles had very different taste to Sir Rowland Winn and this is clearly illustrated in the different furniture supplied for each client.
