Window Stool
c.1770
The Earl & Countess of Harewood, & the Trustees of the Harewood House Trust

These three stools designed to sit in the window recesses, were made en suite to the eighteen chairs and two sofas. The sofas no longer survive, but the chairs display identical carved and decorative motifs. Although they are not recorded in Chippendale's bill, they are listed in the 1795 inventory, which describes them as having 'Green & Gold Frames'. Their current upholstery was added during the 1930's when Princess Mary made a number of changes to the house and it's furnishings according to the current tastes.
