This bedroom chair was invoiced, as part of a set of six, to Ninian Home at Paxton House on 7 June 1774 and was described by Chippendale as 'Round Star back Chairs neatly japand Green & White stuffd in Linnen £7.16.0.'. The painted decoration is very similar to the furniture supplied for David Garrick's villa at Hampton, of which two pieces are represented in the exhibition. Each chair was supplied with '2 sets of Superfine Chints Cotton Cases', which were designed to match the bed hangings window curtains and the specially printed wallpaper.
