The back of this mahogany chair corresponds exactly to a plate in the third edition of Chippendale's Director. From a suite of five chairs it is the only recorded suite to copy this pattern. When the chair seat was recovered fragments of green leather were found and only a single line of nail holes found along the bottom seat rail edge.
