Lady's Writing Table
1766
Nostell Priory (The National Trust)

In comparison to the furnishings at Harewood House, much of the furniture supplied for Sir Rowland Winn at Nostell Priory has a more restrained character. This delicate writing table, with its elegantly curved legs was ideally suited for feminine use. It is fitted with a retractable fire-screen, the modern silk panel woven to match the original pattern, which protected the lady's face from the heat and glare of the fire. The front is faced with a false drawer, beneath a writing slide, whilst the actual drawer opens at the side. This contains a delightful set of silver-capped ink bottles.
