Commode
c.1772
The Earl & Countess of Harewood, & the Trustees of the Harewood House Trust

Although not listed in Chippendale's bill or mentioned in the Steward's Day Work Book, this dressing commode can be confidently attributed to Chippendale on stylistic grounds. The design of the commode is very similar in shape to the Diana and Minerva commode and the quality of marquetry work is comparable to his other work found in the house and elsewhere. The decorative motifs, like the fan-shaped oval on either side of the painted three graces, used on this piece is typical of Chippendale's work.
