The Yorkshire Planetarium

The Yorkshire Planetarium 2009 season

Yorkshire's first planetarium is housed within three giant interlinking domes, each containing a unique experience.

The star theatre gives you the chance to relax under a perfect night sky and take a guided tour of the stars and planets with a real astronomer.
Beautiful, stunning and informative are just some of the words used by our visitors to describe the experience.

During the 2009 season the Planetarium is FREE to all Harewood Cardholders and is included in ALL day tickets too! Check out Harewood day entrance prices here.

Important Notes:
• Due to limited places, the planetarium will only open 15 minutes before each show to take bookings, strictly on a first come first served basis. The audience is limited to 45 for the Star Shows and 70 for the 3D show. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee everyone a place!
• The Star Shows last for approximately 35 minutes and you will be taken on a tour of tonight’s sky by a live astronomer. To allow for dark adaption and to avoid disruption it is not possible to leave the Star Theatre during the show and we cannot let people enter once the show has started.
• Fifteen minutes before each Starshow begins we project Viewspace films from NASA onto the Star Theatre dome.
• There is a strict minimum age of six years old for entry into the Starshows. The show content and length and the level of darkness in the Star Theatre means that is unsuitable for very young children.
• The 3D show lasts approximately 15 minutes and is open to all ages.

Planetarium 3D Show 2009
Our home produced film takes you on a journey from the Terrace Garden of Harewood House and out into our Solar System and beyond.

Guiding our journey, Yorkshire poet Ian MacMillan has written a touching and moving poem capturing his unique view of what lies beyond the Earth's atmosphere.

Supported with a haunting soundtrack from Yorkshire based composer and guitarist, Eduardo Neibla, we believe we have created a distinctly Yorkshire view of what lies out there.

The Yorkshire Planetarium Outreach Programme
The Planetarium Space Bus will take to the road for a series of school outreach programmes throughout 2009. Further details to follow soon.
