Ever wondered what Harewood is like as the sun goes down and night falls? Now you can find out!
This year Harewood will be taking part in Museums at Night for the very first time.
La Nuit des Musées was introduced by the French Culture Department in 2005 to succeed Printemps des Musées, and takes place on the Saturday nearest to International Museums Day.
Join us for an evening experience of sparkling chandeliers, twinkling lights and special interest tours and talks.
See the House lit up at night with fabulous landscape and sunset views from the Terrace with Red kites flying. Enjoy a drink in the evening sun on the Terrace or a tea-time bite alfresco in the Courtyard.
There will be twilight tours of the House and Gardens, children's activities and trails in the House, traditional cookery demonstrations and recorded Servants’ tales playing Below Stairs, Glenn Miller playing in the Cinnamon Drawing Room (you'll have to come along to find out why!) a quartet on the Terrace and live classical piano music in the Music Room ... a one-off treat not to be missed!
The Geopods@Harewood will be open until 7.00pm and the Courtyard Shop will be open late night until 9pm.
Round your evening off with a meal in our Courtyard Cafe which will also be open until 9pm for al fresco dining.
6.15pm: Find out more about the ornate Japanned Cabinets in the Cinnamon Drawing Room. the cabinets will also be open for you to get a peek behind usually closed doors.
6.45pm: The Linley Table in the Yellow Drawing Room is a decorative games table inlaid with miniature watercolours. You'll get the chance to look inside and see the beautiful details of this table, which for conservation reasons is usually closed!
7.15pm: The Diana and Minerva Commode is our most treasured piece of Chippendale furniture designed and made especially for Harewood House in the mid 1770s. Explore the interior and see for yourself the hidden objects concealed within the perfectly formed doors and perfectly sliding drawers...even after nearly 230 years of use!
7.45pm: The Restoration of the East Bedroom and the re-hanging of the Chinese Wallpaper was a huge restoration project, 20 years in the planning and finally realised in 2008. Come and be dazzled by this most remarkable survival!
8.15pm: Find out more about painting restoration at Harewood, we'll focus on two paintings in need of restoration from the collection.
8.45pm: El Greco is one of the most mysterious paintings in our collection. 'The Allegory' is the title of the piece and is as enigmatic as the work it describes. Find out more from one of our house guides...
